Hello to all and welcome back for an exciting new year! For our families who are new, my name is Kathy Kirkley and this is my 16th year as a school counselor at Pinkerton. If you drop off at the east loop in the mornings, you will find me there. I have lived in Coppell for 37 years and I have two children. Ryan (29) graduated from CHS in 2009 and obtained a business degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. He is a firefighter/paramedic for the city of McKinney. My daughter, Lauren (21) is starting her senior year at Texas A&M! Gig ‘em Aggies!

I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology, minoring in biology from Texas A&M and my master’s degree in counseling from UNT. I taught 7th grade life science when there was only one middle school in Coppell! Interestingly, several of our wonderful parents are former life science students of mine! Of course, I was very young when I taught.

I found this article a few years back and decided to make it a tradition! Certainly, we are always excited to hear about the school day from our children. In my own family, I think I finally resorted to bribery to get my son to share just 3 things about his day. My daughter, well, quite the opposite. I excitedly listened as she shared every detail about every activity she did that day and more! If you would like to hear more beyond, “ok”, “good” “fine” etc., please check out this link for “25 ways to ask your child about their day”. The list is quite clever! Of course, we can all ask, “tell me one way you were KIND today or how was someone KIND to you today.”
